New roof
For new builds, we take over the property after the rough structure is complete and deliver a finished roof with downpipes and snow guards. The carpenter, roofer, and sheet metal worker operate on a single schedule, so you won't wait three weeks for cladding.
Roof types and what applies to them
- Gable roofsimplest and cheapest per square metre, well-ventilated, suitable for both tiles and metal sheeting.
- Hip rooffour slopes, more valleys and sheet metal details, more wind-resistant, typical for bungalows.
- Shed roofsingle slope, modern houses and extensions, often with a lower pitch where folded sheet metal is the superior choice.
- Mansard rooftwo slopes in one plane, maximum attic space, more demanding carpentry work.
Roof truss
We use KVH timber or planed spruce timber with impregnation; joints according to the structural design. Truss roof for classic houses, beam roof for habitable attics without columns, nailed trusses for flat ceilings of bungalows. The roof structure is inspected before covering by the site foreman and the customer.
Roof build-up
From the interior: plasterboard, vapour barrier, thermal insulation between and under rafters, safety diffusion foil, counter-battens (ventilated gap), battens, roofing material. Each layer has its function; omitting one will become apparent within two winters. For over-rafter insulation, the sequence changes and the beams remain visible.
Which roofing material for a new roof
Baked clay tiles for slopes from approximately 22 degrees, concrete tiles similarly, metal tiles from 12, standing seam sheet metal from 3 degrees, asphalt shingles from 15. Sheet metalwork and drainage
Gutters and downpipes made from galvanised steel, titanium-zinc, copper or lacquered sheet metal; windbreak strips; flashing for chimneys and penetrations; snow guards according to the snow zone. On a new roof, sheet metal work is part of the contract, not an add-on.

Questions we are asked
When to start addressing the roof on a new build?
Ideally at the project stage to ensure the pitch, roofing material and roof truss load-bearing capacity are correct. No later than two months before completion of the rough construction so that materials arrive on site in time.
Do you take over roofing work based on someone else's design?
Yes. We will check the project, propose any necessary adjustments to the composition and adhere to the structural requirements. Any changes will be discussed with the designer.
How long does a new roof take?
Roof truss on a standard house takes one week; complete roof including sheet metalwork takes 2 to 3 weeks depending on complexity and weather.
